Biography

BA in Law from the University of Tokyo. Started his career at Salomon Brothers and joined Goldman Sachs in 1990 where he became General Partner in 1994. He founded Monex in 1999, jointly capitalized with Sony. Monex Group is now a major online financial institution that operates retail online brokerages in Japan, US, China (including Hong Kong) and Australia. It also has a large crypto asset business through Coincheck, which was acquired in 2018. In January 2020, it established Japan Catalyst, an investment advisory firm. Currently serves as Director of MasterCard and a Vice Chair of Human Rights Watch.
